Oak Structures

Why use oak?

Green Oak is a renewable and sustainable resource, making it the ideal choice of materials. With one of the lowest carbon footprints compared to other building materials it makes green oak an environmentally friendly product. And if that isn’t enough, green oak is a traditional building material that blends seamlessly with almost any surrounds. The natural characteristic of the timber will really display itself over time as the timber weathers, forming natural splits and shakes. Tannins will also be released when the timber is exposed outside, this is oil which is stored inside the timber which adds to the durability.

Do I need to preserve my oak frame?

There is no need to actually preserve your oak frame and over time the timber will turn a beautiful silvery grey, this is perfectly natural and is a result of UV. You can preserve the natural colour of the timber by using protective UV stain or coating. However this will have to be repeated every 6 – 12 months to ensure continued protection.

The 4 Step Process

01 Design

This is from the point you contact us with your proposal / ideas. We will then either make a site visit or have a discussion to go over the main features that you would like to include in the frame. Our designers will then create your bespoke oak frame design perfectly suited to your needs. We will spend time to make sure you are perfectly happy with the design and send you CGI image proofs

02 Quotation

Now that you have your perfect design we will prepare the quotation and finalise the CGI design to suit all the structural requirements. Also if you need planning we can take you through the whole process relieving any stress or time consuming hours dealing with local authority’s.

03 Manufacture

Now we have decided on the design and quotation we will start the manufacturing of your bespoke oak frame in our workshop. We hand craft all of our oak frames with attention to detail. Each frame is manufactured using traditional jointing techniques, mortised and tenon with air dried oak pegs.

04 Installation

This is the most exciting part of the process. Once the frame has been fully manufactured we bring it to site and start the assembly. This is normally a quick process with the main frame only taking a few days to install depending on the size of the project. We can cover all aspects of the install process from the groundwork’s right up to the roof and internal fit out.
